The Huntsville Public Library Friends’ Art Contest will be held during Summer 2019. This year’s theme is “Heroes and Villains.” The contest is open for all five through 18 year olds and fifteen winners will be selected. Correctly filled out submission forms are required to be eligible as is artwork that adheres to the submission guidelines. The deadline to submit your artwork is Monday, August 12. Winners will be announced in September.

Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.

The Huntsville Public Library will host its 28th annual Lineage Society Workshop on Thursday, June 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Staggs Community Room. Participants will receive assistance in preparation of lineage applications to any patriotic or lineage society. Attendees should bring any genealogical and family materials, i.e. birth, death, and marriage certificates, Bible records, land records, etc. If in doubt, bring it along. Help will be available to assist in preparing your lineage papers, and worksheets and handouts will be furnished. The workshop is taught by Johnnie Jo Sowell Dickenson, Professional Genealogist, and is sponsored by the Mary Martin Elmore Scott Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Huntsville Public Library. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.

The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.

Teens, did you miss a movie in the theater? Are you hungry for pizza? Come to the Teen Film Club at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14th to enjoy a PG-13 movie in the library’s Staggs Community Room. Pizza will be provided but teens are encouraged to bring their own drink in a spill-proof container. Participants must be between the ages of 13 and 18.
