The City of Huntsville and H-E-B Huntsville will be wrapping up the Souper Bowl of Caring food drive February 3rd, 2019.
Mayor Andy Brauninger was present for the kickoff to help raise awareness with H-E-B, located at 1702 11th Street.
“H-E-B continues to be an excellent partner to our community and I’m looking forward to seeing many of our residents on Saturday,” said Mayor Brauninger. “Please come by and say hello this weekend, if you can, but don’t forget donations will be accepted through Super Bowl Sunday.”
The Souper Bowl of Caring is an event that allows H-E-B customers to purchase pre-packaged bags of groceries as donations, according to H-E-B Area Community Coordinator Nan Price.
“All of the items collected will go to the Good Shepherd Mission,” Price said. “This is part of a national campaign that churches, scouts, businesses, and others participate in this time of year, leading up to the NFL Super Bowl.”
In 2018, the Souper Bowl of Caring raised over $2 million during the big game in the Houston area alone.
“H-E-B is committed to helping end hunger in our communities. Having Mayor Brauninger join us in kicking off the campaign this year here in Huntsville is exciting. Come by your H-E-B and learn how you can help the Souper Bowl of Caring, Mayor Brauninger and H-E-B ‘Tackle Hunger’ in Huntsville,” said Vicki Sides, Unit Director, H-E-B Huntsville. Sides noted that H-E-B Huntsville raised $19,000 in 2018. “We have a wonderful community.”
One of the fundamentals of the Souper Bowl of Caring is 100% of everything collected goes directly to charity. Every donation helps Souper Bowl of Caring empower youth, unite communities and generate food and resources at a critical time of year when charities are reporting a decrease in volunteers and funding. A contribution to the Souper Bowl of Caring is an investment: For every $1 donated, Souper Bowl of Caring says $19 is generated for charities in local communities across the country.
