The City of Huntsville recently received two donations from the Walmart Supercenter that will provide much-needed search and rescue equipment and promotional materials. The gifts were given on July 6, 2018, during the grand reopening of the store, following a remodel to incorporate new shopping features.
At the event, a $1,000 contribution was made to the Huntsville Fire Department for vital equipment. Fire Chief Greg Mathis accepted the check from Store Manager Colin Williams.
“We will use this generous offering to purchase a side sonar scanner for our water rescue unit,” Chief Mathis said.
Walmart also donated $1,500 that will be used in the Main Street area for new light pole banners.
“This is a great way to help highlight the shops and other venues downtown. What a great investment in local business,” Main Street Coordinator Debbie Charbonneau said.
The check was accepted by Mayor Andy Brauninger and Councilmember Paul Davidhizar and was presented by Williams. The City is truly appreciative of Walmart, a primary area employer and charitable partner.
